  1. Dude, I was totally happy with the new Yotsuba&! volumes, but they don’t match my ADV versions! And apparently the translation is different. So I dunno if I should buy the whole set now. Also, I saw solanin at Barnes and Noble today under the staff recommendations and thought I’d pick it up at the library, if they had it.

  2. Ask the library to buy solanin for you if they don’t! Central selectors love getting customer suggestions.

I didn’t have the ADV Yotsuba&! volumes, since I read it from the library, so I’m just collecting the Yen Press ones now. I remember reading some detailed comparisons of the translations when the reissues first came out. You could probably find them if you google. That might help you decide.

  3. I’m glad you included some non-book ideas too. I’ve done con memberships for my niece and nephew. They loved it.

  4. The one place where the VIZBIG reprints of Kenshin beat out the Japanese ones is with the inclusion of the cover art from the original volumes and Watsuki’s author blurbs at the beginning of each volume. In all other ways, though, I’d have to say that the Japanese reprints are superior.

  5. Ed – Your niece and nephew have a cool uncle! I suspect my relatives have no idea that cons even exist!

fourthage – I wish publishers would retain author notes more than they do. I almost always find them interesting, and they’re often hilarious. Like Watsuki’s sheepish admissions that he’s been reading too many superhero comics…
